The New York Pro has long been seen as a premier event in the bodybuilding calendar. Most regard it as second only to the iconic Mr. Olympia and Arnold Classic competitions. With a rich history and elite-level competition, it attracts bodybuilders worldwide.
This is largely due to its association with IFBB head judge Steve Weinburger, a well-respected figure throughout the bodybuilding community. Furthermore, many high-level bodybuilders tend to use it as their first competitive outing following the previous Mr. Olympia.
With significant prize money and automatic Olympia qualification at stake, it represents a vital competitive milestone. On May 16–17, 2025, the 2025 New York Pro takes place at the Teaneck Marriott at Glenpointe, New York.

Olympia Qualification Implications
The New York Pro bodybuilding 2025 event has long been considered a prestigious point in the bodybuilding calendar. It’s run by Steve Weinberger, a well-respected figure in bodybuilding and the head IFBB judge. Throughout the years, it’s featured historic bodybuilding names such as Ronnie Coleman, Jay Cutler, and Phil Heath.
As an officially sanctioned IFBB event, winners from each category each automatic Olympia qualification. If they’ve already qualified, no one gains automatic qualification from that division. Because of this, it’s one of the best events to compete in when seeking earlier qualification.
The top five placers from each category earn points towards the Olympia Qualification System. The higher the placing, the more points are earned. Athletes earn points throughout the season, with the highest point scorers from each division earning Olympia qualification.
Besides getting the chance to earn an Olympia qualification, the New York Pro has long been regarded as an important event. This is mainly because of its long-standing association with Steve Weinberger, head judge of the IFBB.
Furthermore, it’s held in New York, seen as a global fitness hub that attracts a high-quality international roster. Many high-level bodybuilders tend to start their seasons here, often using it as the first stepping stone before the Olympia. Because of this, the New York Pro often sets the standard for the new season.
As a heavily respected calendar event, it attracts strong media coverage from many well-respected bodybuilding outlets. This gives the athletes valuable exposure, with a division win heavily boosting their visibility and sponsorship interests.
The New York Pro is much more than just another qualifying event. It’s one of the most important events for many high-level bodybuilders. Therefore, it should be seen as a vital part of the season in the quest for Olympia success.
Predictions And Expectations
With the stage set and full lineup announced, some of the industry experts have given their weekend predictions. Alongside this, I’ve given my own predictions as a content writer and long-time bodybuilding fan.
My Predictions
With an amazing weekend in Pittsburgh wrapped up, I’m pleased that many of the same competitors are doing New York. The overall standard throughout each division was really good, especially in the Men’s Open and Men’s Classic divisions.
The surprise package in the Open Division was Nick Walker. After not competing for over a year, many expected him to slowly build into the new season. However, he tied with Arnold Champion Derek Lunsford, with a tiebreaker round needed to separate them.
Because of this, he’s my firm first-place pick for the New York Pro Men’s Open 2025. With no Derek in the lineup, there’s not really anyone who can come close to the overall muscularity and size that Nick offers. If he brings a similar package to New York, he should run away with the win and the Olympia qualification.
Regan Grimes is somewhat of a dark horse in this year’s lineup. He has one of the most aesthetically pleasing shapes on stage and looked really good in his last outing. If he can bring the conditioning, he can take second place.
The other open competitors that I can see coming close are William Bonac and Michal Krizanek. They came fourth and fifth in Pittsburgh, reminding us that they still belong in the top-level conversations.
These are my top four Open Class predictions.
- First Place — Nick Walker (USA).
- Second Place — Regan Grimes (USA).
- Third Place — William Bonac (Netherlands)
- Fourth Place — Michal Krizanek (Slovakia).
