Baseball Strength Training

Strength is very necessary for playing baseball which is why baseball strength training is a very important part of baseball training. This training is to improve or have explosive power when throwing or hitting the baseball. It also helps protect you from injuries. A lot of players disregard improvement in explosive power which is necessary for the game. In the baseball training, small things contribute to developing your explosive power thereby improving your game. Baseball strength training goes beyond the normal weight-lifting most people do. It extends to swinging trainings, throwing trainings, and also sprint trainings.

There are few things to take note of when doing baseball strength trainings. They are:

  • Using different training styles including body weight, dumbbell and some others
  • Try to train the lower part of your body using more weighty materials
  • Remember to train the upper part of your body with less weighty materials
  • The core of your body should not be left out in the training

Baseball training generally consists of training for speed, agility, strength and also mental skills. Although baseball does not really require the players to have great musculature, it does need strong muscles. Using the right training will give him/ her necessary action needed in the game of baseball.

These are the steps involved in the baseball strength training.

  • Less intense training: this is when little intensity is involved in the baseball strength training process. It usually takes place early before the beginning of the season (for professional baseball players). This step includes general exercises like running. It is needed to loosen your body before the main training which is more intense. It acts as a preparation phase.
  • More intense training: this phase is where the training becomes more intense. Here medicine balls are used. This is also the part where the swinging and throwing exercises are done. Some people use baseball-throwing machines to throw the ball for them while others are done by pitchers. This phase helps to improve your explosiveness and also to get more power.
  • Maintenance: this happens during the season when you have improved your power and also your explosiveness already. You should not do intense exercises as they may get you tired and prevent you from playing your games. It is also a period when you balance your muscles. As the name of this phase is, it is meant to maintain your body within the playing season.
  • Resting period: this is generally at the end of the baseball season. It is when you rest from all your hard work.
